One day the E-publishing industry will hold up one particular publisher (an old publisher of mine) as running one of the biggest cons known to the MM world. Just saying.

I have today decided I will have something positive coming from it all. I have this idea that I can ride the after dinner circuit talking about how so much money disappeared and the steps the owner took to get away with it. Including pictures of suitcases, and RVs, stuffed with cash.

If you want to book tickets, I give it until June before we have a full implosion. Once it happens then I can start selling tickets to the after dinner talks I am going to give.

Alcohol is extra.

After the last six months I really thought there wasn't a single thing that would make me leave groups on Facebook or have to listen to some of the nonsense  being plastered on my feed.

The whole situation with Silver Publishing and the way they treated their authors was bad enough, but to see what happened with 'the GRL thing' as it will forever be known in my head, was simply something else I couldn't get my head around.

I appreciate that some of my fellow authors are offended by how GRL have had to change the way they do things. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I fall into the camp of 'however it is done is the way it needs to be done'. I don't see what GRL is doing as elitist. I see it as bloody good business sense.

As I have mentioned before I attended four Supernatural conventions *nerdgasm*. The first year Jared and Jensen were there. But you didn't know they would be attending until way after you bought tickets. You were punting on the chance of the actors you wanted to see being there.

Then the year I met Jared it was manic but OMG I got to get very near to Jared Padalecki *swoons*. Of course nearly making him fall off of his stool was a little embarrassing but, hell, it was fun.

Despite the fact that I bought the tickets in the hope of seeing them the first year it wasn't meeting them that marked the weekend as a success. By the end of four days I had new friends, met up with old friends, had fun, drunk too much, and loved meeting and listening to the other actors.

My readers are not just RJ Scott readers, or *insert other author name here* readers. The readers who choose to read me like reading MM. End of. They are intelligent people who love the genre. Yes, each reader may have their favourite(s) but at the end of the day they will certainly have more than one author on their must buy list. I am a reader as well but I have so many favourite must-buys.

I will be at my computer on the day that the tickets are available and I will take any position I can, author or not. I just want to go.

*smooches*

RJ xx

Other posts I read over the last few days that sum the situation up very nicely and a lot better than I do.

Coming Monday is my joint venture into the paranormal world with Amber Smells Kell.

As Amber said... No authors were injured in the writing of this novel. (I know surprising right?)
The buy now, read now version is coming to TEB on Monday. Here is the buy link

It’s 15% off if you pre-order now. I think it drops to 10% if you wait until Monday. I could be wrong.

Excerpt:

Sam Enderson stood outside his building and smiled with pride. The fresh sign painted on the door in crisp black letters read ‘End Street Detective Agency’. Examining the overall effect, he nodded in satisfaction. This move to becoming a private investigator was as far from being a timid bookseller as he could get. No one would walk all over someone who investigated crimes for a living.

Three months of correspondence school and a shiny new multi-weapon licence had given his confidence a much-needed boost. After the hellish past year, in which he’d found his boyfriend in bed with his now ex-best friend, followed by the death of his favourite uncle, Sam was ready for a new start in life.

Welcome...
...to Amber Kell.

RJ asked me to stop by to promote my latest book. If you don't have a copy of to Catch a Croc leave a comment to enter to win and if you do I'll give you another book from my back list or my coming soon. To wet your appetite for my next book in the Banded Brothers series here is a snippet from to Enchant an Eagle. It is unedited and could change at any time.

Excerpt from To Enchant an Eagle

Eaton should be studying he knew he should. However, Marty lay in the room next to him silent as death. Ever since they’d rescued him from the psychotic hawk trying to take over his gang he hadn’t woken.

When Denton had returned to town he’d settled the hawks into the third floor finishing off the attic rooms that had been ignored long ago. Every once in a while one of them gathered enough courage to peek at Marty but none of them stayed for long not after Eaton glared them down.

Since he’d killed their old leader, Eaton was technically their new alpha until Marty woke, just another reason to want Marty to pull out of his coma. The other reasons involved much more carnal interaction.

Shaking his head Eaton tried to concentrate on his thesis but abstract physics couldn’t keep his attention like the handsome hawk shifter in the next room.

Christmas 2013

Christmas 2013

I now have a full diary for 2013 with plans reaching into 2014... Yes, that includes Christmas... I just agreed some dates for delivery late November with TEB and I have also pencilled in a Christmas book from Love Lane Books for 30 November. I can't believe it's February and I am already so excited at the thought of writing my next Christmas book...!

The TEB book will be an xmas story for my Ellery series or the Montana Sky series. I'll decide based on what my readers think nearer the time.

I updated the WIP page and the red NEW indicates the recent bits and pieces i put on.

"...I loved the world RJ created; it reminded me of the fantasy books I read years ago, a world steeped in traditions, royalty and separatism.
I also have to say I love the idea that within a werewolf the wolf and human parts can think and act separately, evidenced by the fact that Connor’s wolf side recognised his mate long before Connor realises the truth of it. I also found the book quite humorous, I loved the snarkiness of the conversations between Micah and Connor peppered throughout the book, half the time I couldn’t stop laughing..."

Hello

It's been a busy February so far for me. After everything that happened in October and November with Silver I have got my head down and written so many words!! Unfortunately it just so happens that the release dates for these books all seem to coincide in February, March and April this year... I know it's probably been a little confusing keeping up with everything what with new cover art, new releases, re-releases of old books... and it goes on. I apologise. At least I am through the other side of the worst and am just waiting for money and for my rights back on the remainder of my books.

News

My Supernatural Bounty Hunter's series with Extasy is now planned to span 6 books, instead of 3. This means I have ample time to build my world of the Glitnir Court, Werewolfs Vampires, Fae and a touch of magic... Book 1 is doing well and has received some really nice reviews which makes me smile. :)

My Ellery Mountain series with TEB is now marked to be 6 books, instead of 5. The sixth book is about an ex SEAL who goes to Daniel for help... and ends up spotting a bartender he wants to get to know.

In answer to the many emails (thank you guys) I have had to put Texas 4 (Texas Family) on hold. As much as I want to write it I can't all the time that Silver have the rights to Texas 2 (Texas Winter) and Texas 3 (Texas Heat). I should have news for you all soon.

Sanctuary 7 (Worlds Collide) has a new available date of 30 March, this is to give me some breathing room to make sure I give Dale and Joseph the best happy ever after I can. I had lovely new art for it this week which I am proudly displaying here! Bitter Grace did an awesome job capturing Dale, Joseph, snow, an airport and I LOVE it.

New Publisher's Links

As you all know I have two new publishers that have taken a chance on me. And I want to publicly thank them both for the incredible support and encouragement that they have given me over the past few months.

Total E-Bound have my Ellery Mountain Series, starting with The Fireman and the Cop, with The Teacher and the Soldier out in March. They also contracted co-authored books with Amber Kell based around a human detective stuck solving paranormal mysteries, much against his best intentions. My book page at Total E-Bound can be found HERE. Of course they also have Montanna Sky, which is due to hit an e-reader near you August 2013.

eXtasy Books have my six book series, Supernatural Bounty Hunters, which began with the Vampire Contract and continues with The Guilty Werewolf in March. My book page at eXtasy can be found HERE. They also have a new series from me starting September 2013.

Interview

Welcome to my friend and awesome author Sue Brown... she answers a few questions and gives us an insight into her drinking habit... tea that is...

Tetley's or PG Tips?

Neither. I am an Earl Grey girl. I used to drink builder's tea, really really strong, because there was always a pot of tea on the table. Then I took black tea during a diet. God, it was foul, really foul, but by the end of three weeks I never went back to milk in my tea.

I hate milk and drink black coffee as well so I suppose it is logical. I switched to Earl Grey about fifteen years ago, and now 'normal' tea is too strong.
I'm like Captain Jean Luc Picard. "Earl Grey, black."

I've drunk black tea for twenty five years. Do you think my family can remember this fact?

How do you keep your stories "organized"? I mean, remembering side characters, visuals, background stories, connections...

Excerpt

“There is no point in going back and looking at all this old information, Max.”

Maximillian Absolom the Third, of the Berris System Absoloms, raised his gaze from the papers that were crumbled and torn, sitting in the archive fluid for regeneration.

“There is always a point in a record of history, Senator.”

“For goodness sake, will you just call me Dad?”

Max wrinkled his nose and glanced around his laboratory absently, blinking at the false daylight that poured in from the floor-to-ceiling holograms, wondering when Aston, the station computer, had decided to switch from night to day.

“It’s morning?” Max was a space rat. He’d been born aboard a freighter on its way from Berris Major to New Earth. His daily life was dictated by the onboard computer’s idea of time. To Max, it seemed there was no rhyme or reason behind the ship computer’s version of time. It certainly didn’t seem to follow a typical day on Berris Major. “It wasn’t morning when I started work,” he muttered, raking his fingers through the chestnut hair that curled about his ears and forehead, long enough to settle on the collar of his shirt.

Senator Maximillian Absolom the Second sighed and shook his head.

“Son, it’s been morning, and now it has passed to afternoon.”

“I was in the middle of a translation,” Max said, defending his lack of time awareness, and then frowned. Why has Dad come to the lab again? Oh yes. Telling me there’s no point in history, but that’s not why he’s really here.

“We learn from history,” Max finally blurted out, trying to pull the conversation back to his passion and away from whatever the Senator really wanted. All his dad did was wave away the comment. It was no more than Max expected. The Senator was firmly entrenched with both feet in the present and looking to the future. He wasn’t exactly dismissive about Max and his research; after all, he relied on what history had taught him to make reasoned decisions for the future. No, the Senator had a history that he knew, and he didn’t want to hear what he classified as “the fairy tales of a prewar world”.

“You're twenty-five now and it's getting close to the Day of Choosing, son. Your mother says I need to address an issue with you.”

Max winced inwardly. He knew exactly what issue his dad was talking about: the thorny matter of his Companion—or rather, the lack of one. Many a heated debate had been had on the subject. To Max’s mind Companions existed solely for the purpose of heterosexual breeding. Since he wasn’t interested in either females or breeding, there didn’t seem a point in breaking in an escort. He braced himself for another reasoned discussion, his defense firmly established in his mind.

Instead of talking, his father, with a concerned look on his face, simply handed him a chip labeled with the Companion Program insignia.

“I was hoping to avoid the Day of Choosing,” he offered carefully, but his father just shook his head.

“Your mother worries about you being on your own. Just choose one. You can always exchange it for another if you don’t like the first one.”

“I don’t want—”

“I got you dispensation for a male.” Silence. Max blinked and stared at his dad. Dispensations for human same-gender matching were rarer than the missing moons that used to circle Berris Minor. Procreation would always be the dominant theme in all Companion matching.

He reached for the card, flicking it over in his palm as the words hovered above it, suspended in midair. Companion Choice from Absolom Labs. He should have known.

“I didn’t know our Labs had invested in the Companion Program.” His suspicious nature immediately questioned the sudden presence of Absolom Labs’ hand in that particular pie.

“We didn’t. We do now. Hence the dispensation.” Max stared down at it for a short while, then looked up to tell his father that he really didn’t need a Companion. To his consternation, the Senator had left, and once again, Max sat alone in his section of the laboratory complex. He flicked at one side of the card, and a soft modulated voice enquired after his day. He ignored the voice and instead spoke his key code, then waited until his saved search was retrieved. He had visited the Companion Lab once before, a visit his mom and dad had guilted him into, and he had entered his dreams onto the tiny chip that would remember it for all time. A soft, decidedly feminine voice repeated back his preselected requests.

“Male. Twenty-seven New Earth years of age. Hair black, eyes blue. Characteristics: compassion and an interest in prewar Origin Earth history. Sexual orientation: homosexual (status male).” The voice stopped. A warning—a blue holographic triangle—flashed before him, and the voice issued an addendum. “I regret to inform that chosen module, prewar Earth history, is not available at this time. As alternatives, Absolom Labs is pleased to offer you the Advanced Plutonic Physics Module or the Medical Assistance Module.” The voice paused, clearly waiting for a response, and Max considered the two options available to him. Plutonic freaking physics or medical assistance? Who the hell wanted either of those? He required someone who would sit and talk Earth history with him, not bore him to death or bandage a paper cut.

“Other alternatives?” he questioned, listening as one by one the options scrolled by in the same calm voice. “Wait, that last one, I’ll take that. Sentient Science.” It really was the only arm of science that he was remotely interested in, the part of early-Earth science that had led to the genetics war in 2213.

“Your choice has been logged. Please ensure you forward the authorization code to arrange collection of your companion.”

And that was that. The single string of characters and a few numbers was the stamp of his Companion.

Samekh Taw #65572.

Don’t stomp on my traditions!

Don’t stomp on my traditions!

I was due to provide R J with a blog post on love, an appropriate emotion for the month in question. Valentine’s Day is not a holiday I embrace with any enthusiasm, too commercial for my tastes, but since True Love is definitely a factor in my latest novel, Lovers Entwined, I figured I would be able to scrape a post together.

Except… I’ve driven past an advert for Pancake Day outside my local supermarket every day this week. And each time I’ve got a little more irate.

“Why?” I hear you cry. What could be more innocuous than a batter made of eggs, milk and flour?

The stack of pancakes in question are fat and fluffy, artfully arranged with plump, purple blueberries. Nothing wrong with that, they look very tasty. If you want American breakfast pancakes.

However, they are NOT the sort of pancakes traditionally eaten in England on Shrove Tuesday. Those pancakes should be thin, flat, even lacy creations, running with lemon and sugar. They should be cooked in a frying pan, not on a griddle. They need no raising agent. You should be able to TOSS them!

Calm down, dear. It’s only a pancake.

No, it’s more than that, it’s a part of my history. Pancakes have been made in this traditional way on Shrove Tuesday for a thousand years or more. How hard can it be for a huge chain of supermarkets to take a photograph of the type of pancakes that reflect the heritage of the country I live in, and they are trading in?

Time to provide some background information to my tirade.

Shrove Tuesday, also known as Pancake Day, is the day before Lent starts. It's a day of penitence, to clean the soul, and a day of celebration as the last chance to feast before Lent begins.

Shrove Tuesday gets its name from the ritual of shriving that Christians used to undergo in the past. In shriving, a person confesses their sins and receives absolution for them. This tradition is over a thousand years old.

Lent is a time of abstinence, so Shrove Tuesday is the last chance to indulge yourself, and to use up the foods that aren't allowed in Lent. Historically this meant meat and fish, fats, eggs, and milky foods.

So that no food was wasted, families would have a feast on the shriving Tuesday, and eat all the foods that wouldn't last the forty days of Lent without going off.

Pancakes became associated with Shrove Tuesday as they were a dish that could use up all the eggs, fats and milk in the house with just the addition of flour.

Another tradition of the day are Pancake races. The origin of the pancake race is rumoured to date back to 1445. History would have it that a woman had lost track of the time on Shrove Tuesday, and was busy cooking pancakes in her kitchen. When she heard the church bell ringing to call the faithful to church for confession, she raced out of her house and ran all the way to church. Still holding her frying pan and wearing her apron!

Spirit Bear 4/5 - The characters in this story are incredibly written. Both Aiden and Mitchell are well-developed, bringing this story to life. We join them on a journey that takes us into the heart of a bear sanctuary with beautiful details and a burgeoning love. There is much to say about this story, but no way to really explain the incredible relationship that evolves between Mitchell and Aiden, or the emotional pressure that still plagues Aiden, or the ghosts that haunt him. It’s a story that you have to read for yourself.

I recommend that everyone who loves a great story, brilliant characters, emotional pressure, low self-esteem, finding the man who can bring out the best in you and an ending that makes you smile, read this story and enjoy.

Texas Heat by R. J. Scott 4/5 - I will recommend this to those who love sexy cowboys, hunky businessmen, horny photographers, cute kids, supportive family and a happy ending.

Love is in the title by RJ Scott - 4.5/5 - I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves jock/nerd love stories or just want to read a happy-go-lucky work of art. Trust me, you won’t regret it!

Full Circle - 4/5 - So I highly recommend this if you like intrigue, a touch of action, adrenalin rushes, some really hot sex, guns, computers and a happy ending.

Face Value 4/5 - A great addition to the Sanctuary series so I recommend this to those who love mystery, suspense, a bit of action, some danger, a budding attraction/relationship and two stubborn men who strike sparks off each other.

"Chief, locate for CAS." The shout was passed down the line, barely audible over the gunfire, and into Chief Petty Officer Joseph Kinnon's ear. The lieutenant was situated higher up the steep incline, pinned in that position. He was held down by the whine and thud of AK47 bullets that ripped and spat through the rocks of the mountain, but his message was loud and clear. They were trapped, and only close air support was going to solve this clusterfuck.

Dominic Novak left more than a legacy for conservation and an instinctive love for animals behind when he died.

He left a son, Aiden, who craved the instinct with animals that his father had ... and a pupil, Mitchell, whose life changed after hearing Dominic lecture on conservationism at college.

Aiden is hiding, scared of people finding the real him, hiding his identity from the world, and keeping a lid on his grief.

Could working together at a placement in Khutzeymateen, a grizzly bear sanctuary in British Columbia be the making of them, or will it end up destroying Aiden?

Questions posed by FB friends:
*****

What inspires you? - Can be anything from a chance-heard phrase, a picture [not necessarily of a sexy man or two *g*], a feeling, the kind of dream that's like watching a movie. Sometimes, and those are the most awesome times, at least one of the characters appears out of the blue, right *there*, virtually in front of me, and presents me with the opening scene of the book. Then I have to work out all the necessary background details, of course. And that little thing called plot *g*. Xavi [Fool's Odyssey trilogy] has done that to me three times.

Do you take a notepad with you wherever you go? - Yes. Notebook and pen, as well as a small net-book for when I have access to a wifi hotspot. And usually a camera as well. There's always a pad and pen beside my bed as well. Writing is a compulsion, something I've felt the need to do since I was a kid, so I'm well and truly in the habit of being prepared. So much so, that if I have to leave the tools of the trade behind for some reason, I tend to get twitchy...

Chapter One

“I know you’re out there!”

Connor tensed at the loud words. His quarry knew he was here? How the hell could a blundering, uncoordinated, frankly very short vampire know Connor was tracking him?

“What do you want, wolf?”

Exhaustion dripped from each syllable and Connor focused in on the body language of a defeated man. Was Micah Jamieson giving up and giving in?

Connor hesitated. This could well be a trick. No way was he going to let himself be swayed from what he had to do. His claws extended in his splayed hands and he rolled his neck with the itch of change that pressed on the front of his mind.
